Wayra is part of the Sol & Luna Lodge & Spa in Urubamba and in keeping with the overall hotel the Wayra restaurant is a large, warm, colourfully decorated open space with large windows looking out onto the surrounding mountains and gardens.

Wayra is perhaps best known for its Sacred Valley lunch which is served everyday on the outdoor terrace. This traditional Peruvian buffet-style feast includes a selection of tubers, meats and salads flavoured with a tasty uchucuta sauce prepared with local stone-ground spices. Entertainment is included in the form of a Peruvian paso horse display with the excellently groomed horses from the property itself.

The large dining room is cozy and welcoming and it is here that local Chef Nacho Stellis displays his creations on the a-la carte menu. We particularly enjoyed the tasty smoked goats cheese salad and the local Andean trout although we were severely tempted by owner Petit’s friendly offfer to join  her for the regular restaurant pizza night. All visitors welcome!

Downstairs the sumptuous Wayra cellar can be booked for up to 12 people for a gourmet five, seven or ten course wine and food tasting experience. This private setting is exquisite with large overhanging crystal chandelier and luxurious table settings.

Back upstairs in the more informal restaurant area, kids are very welcome and the staff will organise pizza making nights and other fun activities to keep the little ones entertained. There is usually some form of entertainment in Wayra from Wednesday to Saturday nights. The circus was in town during our visit with an excellent 30 minute circus show which was surprisingly good and had us all on the edge of our seats.

The nicest thing about wayra is that despite being a large tourist focused restaurant it still manages to maintain its warm, family feel. Don’t be surprised if the owners join you for a chat while their kids make pizza or play in the garden. It’s what adds to Wayra’s charm…

Wayra also offer a whole range of actvities and tours for all the family. See more infomation here.
