One of the most important things on your list when planning a trip is buying your Machu Picchu entrance tickets into the Machu Picchu Archaeological Site.  Only 2500 people a day are allowed entry into this World Heritage Site so tickets sell out fast particularly during high season from June to August. Children under 8 are free in and children under 18 pay student rate but must show a valid ISIC card.

Option1: Machu Picchu Citadel only.

Option 2: Machu Picchu citadel and Manuel Chavez Ballon Museum
  • Foreigners: S/.150 (Approx. $US58 
  • Peruvian and Andean Community Residents: S/.87 (Approx. $US33)
Option 3: Machu Picchu Citadel and Huayna Picchu. This option books out fast as only 400 people are allowed to climb Huayna Picchu each day. You can choose to start the climb between 7-8 am or 10-11 am. This is quite a strenuous and steep climb so we recommend you are in fairly good physical shape.

  • Peruvian and Andean Community Residents: S/.91 (Approx. $US35)
Option 4: Machu Picchu Citadel and Mountain. Machu Picchu mountain is a new option offered to visitors and allows you to climb the mountain on the southern end  with stunning views of the citadel.  Access is between 7am and 11am every day and this steep climb is definitely recommended only for those in good physical shape.

How to buy tickets to Machu Picchu:

1. Book your tickets online visit www.machupicchu.gob.pe  Click on the Union jack flag in the top right hand corner to get the site in English. Be warned that the site is not always working and that it can sometimes be difficult or impossible to actually purchase your Machu Picchu ticket online.

2. Book your tickets when you arrive in Cusco go to the ‘Direccion Regional de Cultura’ office with your passport at:

Avenida de la Cultura 238, Condominio Huáscar in Cusco.

Opening hours: Monday – Saturday 07.15 – 18.30. Closed on Sundays and Public Holidays. This option is a little riskier particularly in high season when tickets are scarce.
